The Best Gluten-Free Eats in Edinburgh
If you’re gluten-free and heading to Edinburgh, let me just say—you’re not going to go hungry while your there. From fish and chips to crepes to Michelin-starred dining, this city has some seriously amazing options for those of us avoiding gluten. Here are my absolute favorite gluten-free spots in Edinburgh that made my trip unforgettable.

1. Afternoon Tea at The Willow Tea Room
You can’t visit Scotland without indulging in afternoon tea, and The Willow Tea Room makes it gluten-free-friendly. I was a big fan of their scone, and the lemon bar? Unreal. The gluten-free sandwich bread was a bit dry (standard, right?), so I skipped it and went straight for the fillings to save room for more lemon bar. No regrets.
2. Bertie’s Proper Fish & Chips
Located on Victoria Street, Bertie’s is touristy but worth it for the gluten-free fish and chips. They even have gluten-free vinegar, which is a win in my book. Barry, my Scottish boyfriend, gave them his stamp of approval too, which felt like a major victory.

3. Tupiniquim
This spot is hands-down a must-visit. I’m obsessed with Tupiniquim. It’s a tiny converted police box serving completely gluten-free crepes, with dairy-free options too. My favorite was the savory crepe with sweet potatoes, spicy sauce, chicken, spinach, and veggies.
It was so good I went back again for the same crepe and a sweet crepe (lemon and sugar). There’s a little park behind the stand where you can sit and listen to people play piano in a shed. It’s one of my favorite places in Edinburgh.
4. The Kitchin
This was my first-ever Michelin-star experience, and wow, it set the bar high. They were so accommodating with my gluten intolerance and even had a dedicated gluten-free menu. My meal started with the most unexpectedly amazing thing—a tempura-fried shiso leaf.

I know, a fried leaf doesn’t sound like much, but trust me, it was incredible. They also make their own gluten-free bread, which reminded me of cornbread. For my main, I had venison that literally melted in my mouth. Worth every penny.

5. Knoops
If you need a sweet treat to warm you up, Knoops is the spot. It’s a hot chocolate bar with endless options, from different percentages of chocolate to vegan and allergy-friendly choices. The staff is great about asking about allergies when you order. Oh, and the marshmallows? Huge and fluffy. I loved it so much that I brought home four different chocolate percentages for Christmas gifts.
Final Thoughts
Edinburgh does gluten-free so well, from casual eats to high-end dining. Whether you’re craving sweet treats or hearty meals, there’s something for everyone. Let me know if you try any of these spots—or if you have a hidden gem I should add to my list for next time!
